GECAMed Client Properties

GECAMed client properties are a mecanism to remember personal GECAMed client settings form one session to another, for the same user on the same computer.

Typical properties are locations and size of GECAMed windows, or the list of registered users that is available from the user drop down menu during login. The properties are stored in a file on the local computer, in the current user's home directory. For the different platforms this would be:

Platform Property File Location
Windows (bis XP) C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\.gecamed\GECAMed.properties
Windows (seit Vista) C:\Users\USERNAME\.gecamed\GECAMed.properties
Linux ~/.gecamed/GECAMed.properties
Mac OS X ~/.gecamed/GECAMed.properties

Typically it looks sth. like this:

I cannot see the .gecamed folder

You won't have this problem on Windows, but Linux and Mac hide folders, that start with a '.' by default.

In order to access this folder, you need to use the terminal or the “Go to”-function, provided by most file managers.
Using the Mac OS finder you can do it as described:

  1. open the Finder
  2. press “Go to” in the menu on the top screen
  3. choose “Go to file”
  4. enter the path to your .gecamed folder in the opening dialog
  5. the Finder will open in this folder
You can use the Tab-key to autocomplete the folder names when typing in the terminal / console or in the Finder “Go to file” dialog.
